Rare US falcon sets new world record with Dh2.1 million sale in Abu Dhabi
Global exhibition attracts 2,400 companies and brands from 71 countries
ABU DHABI – A Gyr Pure Ultra White falcon has set a new world auction record after selling for Dh2.1 million ($571,000) at the final falcon auction of the Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition (ADIHEX) 2026.
The prized bird, which originated from the United States, attracted competitive bidding before reaching the record price. The sale marked the highest value ever recorded for a falcon at auction.
The rare Gyr Pure Ultra White is highly prized for its exceptionally white plumage, pure lineage and distinctive appearance. Its sale became one of the highlights of the 23rd edition of ADIHEX, where falconry remained a major attraction for breeders, collectors, enthusiasts and professionals from around the world.
Record auction
The record-breaking auction formed part of the exhibition's largest falcon auction programme in its history. The event has become one of ADIHEX's most anticipated features, reflecting the enduring importance of falconry within Emirati heritage and the international interest in exceptional birds of prey.
Abdulaziz Mohammed, official spokesperson for ADIHEX 2026, said the latest edition reflected the global standing the exhibition has developed since its launch in 2003. The 10-day event attracted a record 2,400 companies and brands from 71 countries, as well as 55 leading local and international falcon-breeding farms.
Heritage and innovation
The exhibition brought together Emirati heritage and new developments across 15 hunting, equestrian and outdoor sectors. Alongside the falcon auctions, the programme featured a major purebred Arabian horse auction, supporting efforts to preserve traditions that have remained central to ADIHEX since its inception.
The exhibition continues to provide a meeting point for falconers, breeders, collectors and enthusiasts, while its dedicated programmes, competitions and showcases highlight the cultural significance of falconry and efforts to preserve the practice for future generations.
The latest edition further expanded ADIHEX's international reach, bringing together participants and professionals involved in heritage, culture, hunting and equestrian activities from across the world.
